Kyukpa
Breaking.
The art of breaking to demonstrate ones developed power and focus. Generally we
use 3/4" pine boards cut into 10" x 12" sections for junior student kyukpa demonstrations.
Flying side kick over 4-10 students is a popular choice, as is behind step side
kick. Some poomsae like Nlopae Hyung and Gaebaek Hyung have breaking portions within
their prescribed movements.
Grandmaster Chun has famously demonstrated breaking of black washed up beach stones with a chop of his hand. His Student Charles Stepan has broken 8 cement bricks on occasion to demonstrate his focus and power.
